Designed for beginner and intermediate painters, this relaxed class offers clear, step-by-step instruction in a supportive studio environment. You’ll learn approachable watercolor techniques while creating a luminous California coastal landscape of your own.
What You’ll Learn
In this workshop, participants will practice:
Creating depth with atmospheric perspective in distant hills and mountains
Blending smooth, glowing sky and ocean washes
Painting gentle water patterns and shoreline
Capturing the curve of a beach using value shifts
Suggesting rocky foreground texture with expressive brushwork
Balancing soft passages with bold shadow shapes for contrast
You’ll explore how to control water and pigment to create both soft transitions and confident, expressive marks. By the end of class, you’ll leave with a completed coastal watercolor painting, along with practical techniques you can continue using for your own watercolor inspirations.
